Research Interests

The goal of the project is to investigate the fatigue properties of several Al alloy thin films using beam bending. Until today, there were no systematic investigations on alloyed thin films and their reliability. The mechanical properties of thin films differ significantly from bulk material and the alloying effects are also different. Therefore, the influence of alloying elements and concentration on the fatigue properties is of great interest for reliability issues in micro devices. The project is in collaboration with the Ruhr University in Bochum which is responsible for thin film deposition and characterization. The fatigue testing and investigation of damage mechanisms will be done at the University of Karlsruhe.
